Safety Tips for Women

Having received several e-mails about women protecting themselves from crime, I thought I would pass along a few of the tips. I'm uncertain of their validity, but at thinking about such situations will make us a little more aware.

If you are thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the taillight, stick your arm out the hole and wave like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
Women tend to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and sit (balancing the checkbook, making a list, etc.) DON'T DO THIS! It provides a perfect opportunity for a predator to get in the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET IN YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.
If you are parked next to a van, enter your car from the passenger side. Predators can attack women by pulling them into vans while they are entering their cars.
Look at the cars parked alongside yours. If a lone male is in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, work, etc. and ask a guard/policeman to escort you.
Predators can play on the sympathy of women, asking for "help" into a vehicle, etc. where they can overpower you.
Don't leave your purse on the passenger seat. A friend of mine did this, left her doors unlocked, and a man stole her purse while she was idling!
Finally, true or not, a woman heard a crying baby on her porch one night, and called the police because she found it odd. The police told her "DO NOT open the door." The lady told the police it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman told her predators can record a baby's cry, using it to coax women out of their homes.
