Taking a trip to the beach this summer? Don't go without your baby powder! It works like magic cleaning the sand off a child (or adult!) who is coated with sticky sunblock. Use it to get hands clean before a snack (wipe off the excess powder, of course), for getting those irritating grains of sand out of the diaper area, or just for cleaning the family's feet before heading home.

If your kid is like mine, stickers are always a big hit... until they get stuck to something, that is! At our house, we play with stickers on a sheet of wax paper from the kitchen. (We call it "sticker paper.") That way, the stickers can be peeled off and restuck lots of times, thus prolonging the entertainment value, which is always a good thing.

Pocket Magna Doodle is great when waiting in line for something (for example, at Disney World for a ride or at the supermarket to check out). Even better, it fits in a fanny pack.

We always keep one or two old bath sheet-sized towels in the back of our car. That way when we get to a playground that has not yet dried completely—whether it is from rain or just dew—the towels can dry everything off rather than our clothes.

I am always looking for ways to occupy my daughter during grocery shopping. Our store now has large stickers on the floor in the middle of each aisle with the aisle numbers on them. She loves to find each number and try to tell me what it is. Warning: do not attempt this on a crowded day, as certain toddlers may refuse to move for other customers!

If you can't find the straps to keep in your diaper bag to use when a grocery cart or restaurant high chair is without such, go to the pet store and get a very big dog collar. My sister-in-law did this and reports that it is great. It was inexpensive, it has a fun big metal clasp, and it has a loop (for the dog tag) on which to link toys.

For long car trips, invest in a DVD player for your child to watch. For our 8-hour road trip over Thanksgiving, I don't know what I would have done without it. And, it is fun for the non-driver when the kids sleep!
